Message by Under-Secretary-General Mr. Miguel Moratinos,
the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC)
and UN Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia,
on the Occasion of Eid al-Adha
On the occasion of Eid Al-Adha, I extend my warmest greetings to Muslims around the world celebrating this sacred holiday.
Eid Al-Adha is a time of reflection, compassion, solidarity, and generosity. It reminds us of the universal values that unite humanity — empathy, mutual care, sacrifice, and respect for human dignity.
As millions of Muslims perform Hajj – a profound spiritual journey that symbolizes unity, devotion, humility, and equality among people from all walks of life. It is also a time to extend a helping hand to the poor and vulnerable, reflecting the spirit of compassion and generosity that lies at the heart of Eid Al-Adha.
Across the Muslim world, families and communities gather in celebration and prayer. This occasion also serves as an opportunity to reaffirm our shared commitment to dialogue, peaceful coexistence , mutual respect and understanding among cultures, religions, beliefs and ethnicities.
At a time when many communities continue to face intolerance, discrimination, and acts of hatred, including Islamophobia, I reiterate the importance of upholding freedom of religion or belief and promoting respect for diversity in all societies.
May this Eid Al -Adha inspire renewed hope, peace, and solidarity across the world.
Eid Mubarak عيد مبارك
