Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned has played a leading role in education and social reforms in Qatar, and is spearheading both national and international development projects. Her commitment to generating higher social and cultural standards in Qatar through educational and social reform is having an extensive impact on the country and the region.
Her Highness is Chairperson of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, which officially launched “Education City,” a prototypical university of the future. It brings international university communities to the Qatar campus, and provides innovative educational and research opportunities through leading local and international educational institutions. She is also President of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and Vice-Chairperson of the Supreme Education Council. In 2003, UNESCO appointed her Special Envoy for Basic and Higher Education; in this capacity she has actively promoted a variety of projects to improve the accessibility and quality of education worldwide. Her Highness graduated from the University of Qatar in 1986 in Sociology and was awarded Honorary Doctorates from Virginia Commonwealth University and Texas A&M University in 2003.
