Alumni Consultative Group of the Fellowship Programme

From the 23rd of October to the 26th, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) Fellowship Programme, will be hosting an Alumni gathering of 11 fellows from past Fellowship Programme editions.

This gathering will aim at finalizing the Baku Report and at preparing strategic recommendations for the development of an Alumni Network Action Plan.

The UNAOC’s Fellowship Programme focuses on creating opportunities for young leaders, across the Arab world and the West, to increase mutual understanding through experiential learning and direct interaction with civil society. The first Alumni meeting of the fellowship programme took place on the 31st of May 2013 in conjunction with the 2nd World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The Gathering of this Alumni Consultative Group from the 23rd to the 26th of October will focus on building incrementally on the conclusions of the Baku Report. This report will focus mainly on the improvement of the format and content of the fellowship programme but also on a grounded reflection concerning the West-Muslim relationship.

To construct on the success of the past editions and with the Baku Report in hand, the Alumni Network Action Plan will endeavor to create a Network that can further prolong and develop the ties and newly shared perspectives of the fellows.

The first day of the Alumni gathering will begin with a Debriefing Kick-off meeting and a presentation of keynote speeches by the UNAOC senior management and partners addressed to the Alumni fellows. The rest of the day will focus on building and consolidating the Baku Report.

The second day will consist of training and discussion on strategies and tools to sustain the UNAOC’s Fellowship Alumni Network with the support of the fellowship programme’s partner the Institute of International Education.

The programme is made possible thanks to a grant of the Federal Foreign office of Germany and the Hermes Foundation and is developed in partnership with the League of Arab States, the British Council, Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Qatar Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Institute for International Education and The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Jordan.
The Fellowship Programme is the first and only young leaders’ exchange programme developed jointly with partners and resources from the Arab and Muslim world, Europe, and the United States.
