The fourth biannual International Conference on Aceh And Indian Ocean Studies (ICAIOS) conference will be held on June 9-10, 2013 at the campus of Malikussaleh University (UNIMAL) in the City of Lhokseumawe, North Aceh, Indonesia. This fourth conference will explore the dynamics beyond reconstruction by examining “Social Recovery” in broad terms. Unlike physical reconstruction, social recovery takes a longer time after a disaster or a conflict. ICAIOS invites abstract(s) submissions and panel proposals to present quality papers from original research that addresses the psycho-socio-cultural dynamics of recovery following major disasters or conflicts.
The June 2013 conference will discuss these in five panels: (1) Psycho-Social Issues, (2) Socio-Political Changes, Governance, and Legal Issues, (3) Reconciliation, Culture and Religion, (4) Gender, Representation, and Participation, (5) Socio-Economy, Envi-ronment, and Natural Resources Management and ICAIOS also welcomed special panels. All research papers on Aceh and its connections and comparisons with Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean regions more broadly will be considered for inclusion.
