Name of organization:
The National Organization for Popular Activities (Amel)
Description of organization:
Amel seeks to build the capacities of underprivileged young people and raise their awareness of human rights and other issues. The organization was established in 1979 and works across 23 centers in Lebanon.
Project description/context:
The ‘Video Advocacy Action for Youth’ project aims to empower young people in Lebanon through new tools and technological proxies to protect human rights and gain high level technical skills that will help them be an active part of society. Amel notes that many social and political tensions still exist though the civil war in Lebanon which ended more than two decades ago. These tensions particularly affect youth, who constitute more than half of the Lebanese population.
Expected results:
By the end of this project, Amel expects to:
- Identify and select 70 young marginalized people to be trained on human rights and peace building values;
- Train 30 youth on how to produce videos advocating human rights, development and peace; and
- Produce six videos and distribute online through local level screenings and NGO network across Lebanon, reaching out to at least 14,000 viewers.
