Name of organization:
Youth Action Nepal (YOAC)
Description of organization:
YOAC educates, engages and empowers diverse youth in the nation building process by making them responsible for contributing at the local, national and international levels. The organization was established in 2007 and is based in Kathmandu, Nepal.
This project mobilizes young people to get involved in nation building at a local level. As suggested by YOAC, it addresses certain issues followed by the People’s Movement in 2006 and change of government system in Nepal. The project will be carried out in 25 village development committees of five districts in Nepal, bringing together youth, who have different political, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds. They will learn, share, discuss and reflect on best practices for peace and social harmony.
By the end of the project, YOAC expects to:
- Have 125 youth trained on peace and social harmony, through developing training processes and manuals with input from the community;
- Hold intercultural exchange and community dialogue initiatives between 125 youth and 500 adults;
- Collect and present best practices and youth voices on the issue of peace and social cohesion, with the publication and distribution of 1000 booklets; and
- Prepare a roster of 250 youth peace builders who will issue a declaration to the attention of local authorities, which will be submitted to relevant stakeholders and published in local media.
