Name of organization:
Organization for Community Development (OCD)
Description of organization:
Organization for Community Development (OCD) is a not for profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) working with neglected, poor and marginalized communities with a participatory approach towards sustainable development.
Project description/context:
The project consists in a series of groups and trainings to address divisions and discrimination in Pakistani society, combat religious-based violence and violent extremism, and promote acceptance, tolerance, and inclusiveness. OCD identified that youth do not have sufficient opportunities, through formal education and broader society, to learn about these topics and therefore proposed a project to bridge this gap. The areas of focus are the districts of Multan, Muzaffargarh and Khanewal.
Expected results:
By the end of the project, OCD Pakistan expects to:
- Create strong relationships among individuals especially youth and women groups from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds to form a more socially- cohesive society.
- Create 10 community protection groups of 60 youth each with a view to reduce religious and cultural tensions thanks to active collaboration with individuals who act as forces of moderation and impart tolerance such as religious leaders, grassroots organizations, community members, social workers, youth leaders and women leaders.
- Create opportunities/alternatives for youth and therefore reduce the appeal of violent groups.
