and United Nations Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia,
On the Israeli Settlers’ Attack on a West Bank Mosque

The High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and United Nations Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia, Under-Secretary-General Mr. Miguel Ángel Moratinos, strongly condemns the attack carried out on Thursday by Israeli settlers against the Hajjah Hamidah Mosque in Salfit, in the northern West Bank. The perpetrators reportedly set the mosque on fire and defaced its walls with Islamophobic graffiti in an appalling act of violence and desecration.
The High Representative reiterates his firm and unequivocal rejection of such heinous attacks, which clearly target Muslims and deliberately seek to provoke and offend their religious sentiments.
He expresses his solidarity with the Muslim community in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and calls for those responsible to be swiftly identified and held accountable in accordance with international law.
