Press Statement by the High Representative
for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC)
on the heinous attack on a church in Grand Blanc, Michigan

The High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) is alarmed by the heinous attack on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan, which claimed lives and left several injured. The attacker rammed his truck into the church, opened fire on the peaceful congregation and set the church on fire.
He underscores that houses of worship are sacred sanctuaries where people find peace. He reiterates that such acts of hatred and violence are utterly rejected and are unjustifiable under any circumstances. He stresses that such horrific acts undermine the whole community.
The High Representative calls for unity in rejecting hate, violence, and extremism in all its forms, and reaffirms UNAOC’s commitment to advancing mutual respect, interfaith harmony and social cohesion.
He stresses the urgent need to protect all religious sites and communities, regardless of faith or denomination.
He expresses his deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to those wounded. He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the community of Grand Blanc Township.
