Dr. Candido Mendes had a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Philosophy from Pontifícia Universidade Católica of Rio de Janeiro, and a Ph.D. in Law from Faculdade Nacional de Direito and Universidade do Brasil. He was the Rector of Universidade Candido Mendes, President of Sociedade Brasileira de Instrução, a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, President of the Forum of Rectors of Rio de Janeiro, and Secretary General of the Académie de la Latinité.
Dr. Mendes held senior posts in academic and international governmental contexts, including at: the Brazilian Academy of Economics; UNESCO; the Presidential Commission on Corruption; and the Council on Educational Cooperation with Latin America. He received widespread acknowledgement for his contributions to the areas of education, peace, and government, and for his efforts to bridge the divides between different cultures. Dr. Mendes authored over thirty books on political science, social sciences, and international relations.
