What is the role of faith-inspired organizations in development? Over the last four years, Georgetown University’s Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs has conducted a mapping study of the role of faith-inspired organizations in development to help in answering this question. The study was funded by the Henry Luce Foundation. The conclusions of the study, which are the result of workshops in Morocco, the Netherlands, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Qatar, and the United States, will be unveiled in greater detail at United Nations’ Headquarters on February 23rd at an event sponsored by the UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and UN Population Fund (UNFPA). “It is important to build knowledge about, and understand, the role of religion in society. The Berkley Center plays an important leadership role in this field.” said Marc Scheuer, Director of the UNAOC.
“The new study is aimed at building knowledge and fostering communication and collaboration among different sectors,” said Senior Fellow Katherine Marshall of the Georgetown University’s Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs, one of the principal authors.
Thomas Banchoff, Director of the Berkley Center, will present the Center’s on-line knowledge resources related to religion and development. The Berkley Center is a partner in the UNAOC’s Education about Religions and Beliefs project.
