The aim of PEACEapp is to promote digital games & gamified apps as venues for cultural dialogue and conflict management, by drawing on the unique cultural resources and experiences of developers, technologists and budding peacebuilders around the world.
The competition is open to three kinds of entries at all stages of development – from prototypes to fully developed:
(i) digital games & gamified apps developed purposefully for this competition;
(ii) already existing digital games, and
(iii) creative re-purposing of existing digital games to meet the aim of PEACEapp.
PEACEapp’s international jury will then select five winning entries: three fully functioning games or apps that will receive USD$5,000, and two in development that will receive mentorship from expert partners. In addition, one member of each award-winning team (completed or in development) will be invited (all travel costs covered) to the Build Peace Conference (Cyprus, April 2015) to share their product with conference participants.
USD$ 5,000 prize each for three completed entries
The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and the United Nations Development Program in collaboration with Build Up are offering a prize of USD$5,000 each for three fully functioning digital games or gamified apps that meet the aim of PEACEapp to recognise the work undertaken on the winning entries and in order to extend their existing reach and promote further development.
Mentorship from experts for two entries ‘ in development’
PEACEapp’s mentors will bring a combination of gaming, technical and peacebuilding skills and expertise that will allow the award-winning teams, over a period of two months, to refine their concepts or prototype ahead of their presentation at the Build Peace conference in April 2015. The support from mentors is also intended to assist their subsequent development into fully functioning games or apps.
