Mr. António Guterres\, will brief Member States regarding the United Nations Plan of Action to Safeguard Religious Sites: In Unity and Solidarity for Safe and Peaceful Worship. \nThe Plan of Action has been elaborated by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) in the aftermath of the horrific attacks on two mosques that took place in Christchurch\, New Zealand\, on the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh\, and on the three Catholic churches in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday\, as well as increasing occurrences of other hatred attacks targeting religious sites worldwide. \nThe Plan of Action was prepared following an extensive series of consultations with governments\, United Nations entities\, faith-based organizations\, religious leaders and other relevant stakeholders\, conducted by the office of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations during the period from April to July 2019.
