Migration represents one of the major factors triggering social and political transformation in the current time. Spain is immersed in a process characterized by the constitution of a pluricultural society. Migration is a daily life reality in cities and towns all over the country. Therefore, good management of diversity will require socialization policies that are based on pluralism and civic-mindedness and that define a shared public culture for all citizens. These policies need to be based on democratic principles of justice and human rights.
The Foundation Bertelsmann initiated in 2010 the project ”Eres joven, ¡triunfarás!,” – or in English ”Youth, you will succeed!”. Inspired by the “Alle Kids Sind VIPS” project (All Kids Are VIPS) initiated by the Bertelsmann Stiftung in Germany in 2008, this project aims to promote integration of students with a migrant background; to raise awareness among youth and mainstream society about the importance of integration; and to work towards equal opportunities in the educational context.
The prize for the winners of the contest consists in the visit to the school of the following ‘ambassadors’: (Bojan, Chenoa, Sergio Alcover and El Chojin).
The Ambassadors of the project are celebrities with a migrant background who collaborate on a voluntary basis. These Ambassadors contribute to give a positive image of cultural diversity and encourage youth to participate in the contest.
Objectives:
- To raise awareness on migration and integration issues and to promote the participation of children and youth in projects related to these issues.
- To gather and disseminate school integration experiences and promote their replication.
- To raise parents’ awareness about the importance of integration and cultural diversity.
- To disseminate the results of the contest among policy-makers through Diálogo y Acción 2010.
- To present a positive image of migrants through the Ambassadors and parallel organized activities.
