Goals of the AFL Multicultural Program:
• Build community capacity in culturally and linguistically diverse communities
• Influence community clubs and leagues to embrace multicultural diversity
• Use the strength, power and popularity of the game as a vehicle to promote social inclusion education, settlement and integration into Australia
The pillars that sustain our framework are:
• A partnership between the AFL and people from multicultural communities. That is based on acknowledgment, equality, respect and mutually beneficial outcomes
• Enable people from non- Multicultural background’s to be culturally respectful and to adopt appropriate protocols.
• Enable people from culturally diverse backgrounds to excel in AFL affiliated organizations.
• Educate the broader community about multicultural communities and cultural diversity.
Programs:
MULTICULTURAL ACADEMY CAMPS: Broadening the talent pool provides participation opportunities and promotes education, healthy lifestyle and leadership.
MULTICULTURAL SCHOOLS FOOTBALL PROGRAM: Culturally and linguistically diverse participants inducted to Australian football through “10 Experiences” and personal development via AFL You Can Kick Goals resource
AFL MULTICULTURAL VISITATION PROGRAM AFL: Live match experience (22,000 people this year)
AFL MULTICULTURAL AMBASSADOR PROGRAM AFL: Players provide awareness and mentoring to the multicultural sector nationally
CULTURAL DIVERSITY IN 2010 Increase awareness & participation model involving communities, AFL, Club’s, Government and Corporate partners.
MULTICULTURAL MEDIA PARTNERSHIPS: Major campaign with identified communities. 25 CaLD Journalists accredited and CaLD media attending key events and programs.
MULTICULTURAL EMPLOYMENT STRATEGY: Collaboration across the industry to create a multicultural workforce across AFL and State Affiliates, Our programs ensure we continue to provide a pool of multicultural candidates.
