President Sampaio attends launch of Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean

The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UPM) was officially announced in Barcelona on 4 March.

Attending the launch were President Sampaio, and the foreign ministers of Spain, France, Egypt and Jordan, the European commissioner for neighborhood policy, the Secretary General the Arab League, the Catalan President, and the Mayor of Barcelona. The Jordanian Ahmad Masa'deh will be the first Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean, with Barcelona as the headquarters for UPM's secretariat.
