- Essay Competition Deadline: August 31, 2010. Frank Gibney Award. The Journal of American-East Asian Relations invites submissions for the Frank Gibney Award for an essay in the field of American–East Asian relations written by a graduate or undergraduate student and submitted by his or her instructor. The winning essay will be published in the Journal.
The Award honors the life goals of Frank Gibney (1924–2006). Gibney worked in both East Asia and in the United States for more than fifty years to educate the peoples of the Pacific Basin about each other. He began his study of Japan as a military intelligence officer during World War II and the Occupation of Japan, and then became a correspondent and editor at Time, Life, and Newsweek magazines. He joined Encyclopaedia Britannica in 1966 and developed its Asian presence. He wrote or edited fourteen books and retired as President of the Pacific Basin Institute, which he founded, and Professor of Politics at Pomona College, Claremont, California. Competition for the Dennis Reinhartz Transatlantic History Award. The History Department at the University of Texas at Arlington, home of one of the nation’s first PhD programs in transatlantic history, announces its annual nationwide competition for the Dennis Reinhartz Transatlantic History Award, sponsored by the E. C. Barksdale Essays in History and our Omicron Kappa Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta. They invite advanced undergraduate students and MA students who have written essays or research papers on topics related to the interconnection and interrelations of people and cultures around and across the Atlantic Ocean from 1500 to the present time to submit their essays for our contest. Essays should be between 10 and 50 pages long. The deadline for submissions is September 1, 2010. Announcements about the prize of $250 will be made by October 15, 2010.

- Grant Deadline: September 7, 2010. Marie Curie Reintegration Grants . These are individual grants which are aimed at researchers from the EU and Associated States who have participated in a Marie Curie action for at least two years. The grants assist them to become professionally reintegrated usually within their country of origin. It is intended that these grants will encourage researchers to include transnational mobility within the framework of their longer-term career.
