Noted Scholar Meets with Alliance
Patrice C. Brodeur, a scholar on religion and global dialogue, met with the New York team on 21 July.

Patrice C. Brodeur, a noted scholar on applied religion and the role of interreligious dialogue in promoting democracy, pluralism and peace-building, met with the Alliance team in New York on Tuesday, 21 July.

During the meeting, Dr. Brodeur spoke of the need for incorporating an applied religion wing to contemporary religious studies that can research the intersections between Muslims and non-Muslims and help integrate the Muslim world more into global dialogue. He highlighted the shortcomings of traditional intercultural/inter-religious exchanges as being tilted towards the West and called for an “inter-worldviews dialogue” that was more holistic and encompassed religious, educational, and other elements.

While Dr. Brodeur praised the Alliance’s efforts in mobilizing different actors to help bridge the Muslim-West rift, he encouraged the Alliance to broaden its focus on other global cultural divides as well.

Dr. Brodeur completed an M.A. and a Ph.D. in the Study of Religion from Harvard University. Currently, he is Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair on Islam, Pluralism, and Globalization at the Faculty of Theology and the Science of Religions at the University of Montreal, Canada. He is currently completing a book manuscript entitled Contemporary Arab Muslims Perceptions of Religious Others, and is involved in a multi-country research project on Islam, pluralism and globalization.  Dr. Brodeur is an active member of the AoC Foundation Network as a Board member of the Guerrand Hermes Foundation for Peace.
