Frequently Asked Questions about the PLURAL+ video festival. 1. ENTERING THE PLURAL+ VIDEO FESTIVAL A selection of videos submitted to PLURAL+ will be posted at UNESCO E-platform by mid-October 2009. From those about 12 videos will be later identified as award winners.What is the goal of the PLURAL + Video Festival? The PLURAL+ Video Festival is an empowering tool for young people to speak out about what they think of migration and diversity, using their own views and voices. The PLURAL+ Video Festival gives youth a platform to say what they think and to make themselves heard by people from all over the world. Who is an entrant? The entrant is the person responsible for submitting the video to the PLURAL+ Video Festival. The entrant should be a person actively involved in the making of the video. Who can enter the Video Festival? The PLURAL+ Video Festival is for youth. Anyone can enter the Video Festival as long as they are between the ages of 9-25. What is the entry deadline? All entries must be received by Midnight (New York City Time, GMT -5hours) on Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Any videos received after this time will not be considered by the PLURAL+ Video Festival organizers. What should my video be about? Your video should be about migration and diversity – two things that are very important in our globalizing world. The PLURAL+ Video Festival wants you to tell us what you think about things like migrant integration, inclusiveness, identity, diversity, human rights and social unity. Is there a specific way that my video should look? No! PLURAL+ encourages creativity in submissions for the Video Festival. Your video can be done in any style or genre – animation, documentary, drama, music video, comedy etc. - whatever you decide best represents what you think about migration and diversity. Just be sure that your video is sent on a DVD and has English subtitles if it needs them. How long should the video be? Videos must be between 1 and 5 minutes long, including title and end credits. Any submissions falling outside of this time restraint will not be considered. What should the video’s format be? Videos must be submitted on DVD format. Any other format (e.g. MiniDV, VHS) will not be considered. What language should my video be in? Your video can be in whatever language you want, however if the language of your video is not English then you must have English subtitles. If I want to enter the PLURAL+ Video Festival but do not have access to cameras or production equipment, what can I do? PLURAL+ is currently compiling a database of organizations from around the world that may be able to help you. Check back soon! 2. SUBMITTING A VIDEO TO THE PLURAL+ VIDEO FESTIVAL What languages can I use to correspond with PLURAL +? The official language of the PLURAL+ Video Festival is English. While the Rules and Regulations and the FAQs are available in Arabic, English, French, and Spanish, the language of correspondence for the PLURAL+ Video Festival is limited to English. The entry from must be completed in English. What should I include in my entrance package? You must include the following: a) A complete and signed entry form b) Your DVD Where do I send my video? Yes! When you send PLURAL+ your video you are agreeing to let PLURAL+ show and distribute the video for the purpose of amplifying youth voices in the media around the subjects of migration and diversity, but the video is still yours. This means that even if you submit your video to the PLURAL+ Video Festival, you can still submit it to other video festivals, competitions etc. 3. THE SELECTION PROCESS OF THE PLURAL+ VIDEO FESTIVAL How are the videos judged for the PLURAL+ Video Festival? Judging for the PLURAL+ Jury Award will be performed by an international jury, whose names and biographies are available on the website. There will be 3 age-based categories for judging: 9-12, 13-17, and 18-25. Will there be just one winner or will there be runners-up too? There are a variety of prizes awarded through the PLURAL+ Video Festival. The PLURAL+ JURY AWARD prize will be awarded to one video per age category (3 prizes in all). In addition, other collaborative partner agencies and organizations of PLURAL+ will be awarding additional prizes. What are the prizes? The main goal of the PLURAL+ Video Festival is to give exposure and recognition to winning young filmmakers. If you win an award at PLURAL+, your work will be seen at an international level as the PLURAL+ Video Festival shows your video on the internet, broadcasts, and provides screening opportunities around the world. This way, your message goes global! Each of the 3 winners of PLURAL+ JURY AWARD will receive a USA $1,000 cash award. Other awards and prizes might include equipment and professional opportunities. When will the winners be announced? The winners of the PLURAL+ Video Festival will be notified by December 1, 2009 at the very latest. The winners will be publicly announced on December 18, 2009 at a ceremony in New York celebrating International Migrants Day. Will I hear from PLURAL+ if I am not successful? Yes, we will contact all entrants via email to let them know the decision of the Jury. Additionally, all entrants who comply with the PLURAL+ Rules and Regulations will receive certificates of participation in the PLURAL+ Video Festival. I am related to one of the jurors, can I still enter PLURAL+ Video Festival? No, immediate family members of jurors are not eligible to enter the PLURAL+ Video Festival. For the purposes of the PLURAL+ Video Festival, immediate family members are siblings, children, and grandchildren of the jury members. What is the video going to be used for? PLURAL+ believes that the views and opinions of youth about the topic of migration must be noticed by the global community. The Video Festival aims to make this happen through the possibility of wide multi-platform distribution of the videos, including broadcast, satellite, internet, film festivals and DVD. PLURAL+ gives youth a global voice to communicate through the media with policy-makers and society as a whole about the important topics of migration and diversity. 4. SUPPORTING THE PLURAL + VIDEO FESTIVAL I work for an organization that is interested in collaborating or supporting PLURAL+, is there someway for my organization to be involved? Yes!
